EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn., September 19, 2007 — Ingenix, a leading health information technology company, announced today that it has signed two agreements with Aetna (NYSE: AET) to provide electronic data interchange (EDI) services. With these agreements, Ingenix will provide clearinghouse services, as well as next-generation managed EDI services that allow health care providers and other bill submitters to transmit data directly to Aetna.
Ingenix and Aetna have entered a five-year agreement to launch Aetna EDI Connect(SM), a free direct-connect website that allows health care providers and other bill submitters to directly transmit batch and real-time transactions to Aetna without the need for clearinghouses or third-party intermediaries. The website is available to all submitters whose practice management systems can transmit files conforming to Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) standards. Laboratories may also submit lab reports to Aetna using this site.
The Ingenix Connectivity Director platform is the technology foundation for Aetna EDI Connect. Ingenix Connectivity Director allows submitters to register and validate test files at a user-friendly, self-service web portal. Portal submitters may send electronic claims directly to Aetna without incurring transaction fees or delays. Ingenix Connectivity Director validates received data and routes screened transactions to Aetna for processing. Ingenix Connectivity Director also allows submitters to check patient eligibility and receive ERAs conveniently and securely through the Aetna EDI Connect website.
In addition to enabling the Aetna EDI Connect website, Ingenix expanded its agreement to provide Aetna with clearinghouse services for electronic transactions through 2012. Defined under HIPAA, these transactions include professional and institutional claims and encounters, ERAs, real-time eligibility verifications, claim status checks and referral authorizations.
“Ingenix is directly connecting health care providers and payers in a unique way, delivering a simpler, more efficient way to do business,” said David Ostler, executive vice president of the business solutions group at Ingenix. “Our goal is to exchange electronic data among all health care system participants in batch and in real time, both directly and through clearinghouses.”
