Paul Stordahl is a Principal with the Eden Prairie office of Reden & Anders and specializes in health cost trend analysis and forecasting, pricing and product development, claim liability estimation, and provider reimbursement strategy for managed care programs.
He currently manages a team of Reden & Anders actuaries and consultants who perform outsourced health cost reporting, analytics and forecasting for a number of health plan clients. Paul and this team have also been active in the development of stand-alone products that support a health plan’s trend analytic and forecasting capabilities. These products include:
- The Ingenix Health Technology Pipeline TM – a web-based resource providing information about emerging developments in health care technologies and their potential impact on commercial and Medicare programs
- Ingenix TrendAlert TM – a medical cost analytic application that quickly and accurately identifies health care cost trend drivers, and pinpoints outlier trends requiring further analysis
Other relevant consultative client engagements include:
- Assisting several HMOs in developing premium rating and underwriting strategies
- Developing Medicare Advantage feasibility and profitability analyses for health plans and capitated provider organizations
- Developing medical stop-loss rating manuals for numerous plans underwriting HMO and provider stop-loss insurance coverage
- Identifying for several plans potential opportunities for improvement in provider contracting, medical management, and benefit plan construction, based on benchmarking analyses of the plans’ commercial and Medicare claims experience
- Re-designing provider reimbursement and risk sharing methodologies for several health plans and at-risk provider organizations
Stordahl has more than 15 years of experience as a health care actuary, and joined Reden & Anders in 2003. Prior to joining Reden & Anders, he spent 10 years as a consulting actuary with Towers Perrin and Deloitte & Touche.
He received a Bachelor of Science degree in mathematics from Pacific Lutheran University in Tacoma, WA, and is a fellow of the Society of Actuaries and a member of the American Academy of Actuaries.
