John Stenson is a Principal in the Minneapolis office of Reden & Anders. Prior to joining Reden & Anders, he was a principal with Deloitte Consulting, where he was the global leader of the company’s health actuarial practice. He has 20 years of experience in health care consulting.
Stenson works with a variety of managed care entities including HMOs, PPOs, insurance carriers, Blue Cross and Blue Shield plans, and providers. He also has significant experience in assisting managed care plans and state government agencies with actuarial, financial, and operational issues for state sponsored Medicaid programs.
Some of his more recent consulting engagements include:
- Medical expense and premium rate development for HMO, PPO and POS products for start-up and established managed care entities.
- The start-up and development of managed care plans from the feasibility study stage through all aspects of operational readiness.
- Provider network strategy formulation and analysis of provider contracts and impact on expenses and premiums.
- Product, marketing, and sales strategy development and management process implementation.
- Implementation of state sponsored managed care programs for Medicaid beneficiaries.
- Assistance to states in the development and filing of CMS coverage and HIFA waivers for all Medicaid eligibility classes.
- Analysis of issues regarding Medicare products for dual and institutional populations.
- Medicaid risk feasibility analysis and development of medical expense projections in several states.
- Review of unpaid claim liability and preparation of actuarial certifications.
- Review of small group rating practices and compliance issues.
Stenson received a Bachelor of Arts in history from Carleton College in Minnesota. He is a fellow of the Society of Actuaries and a member of the American Academy of Actuaries.
